Maraska Maraschino is world-renowned as the original cherry liqueur.

It was created over three centuries ago in Zadar, on the Adriatic Coast where the native Marasca cherry is grown. Today, we deliver our liqueur to discerning tastes all over the world.

Our Maraschino liqueur is famous for its sweet taste and aromatic cherry fragrance. It is produced a stone’s throw from the sun-drenched orchards where the cherries ripen, which ensures their unique flavour is preserved and the highest quality liqueur is poured into every bottle.

This Cocktail Collection will introduce you to a world of irresistible flavours with the original Maraska Maraschino.

Cheers!

Makarska Through History
  • 14th century

The roots of the Marasca cherry originated in Asia Minor and were introduced to the Old Continent during the Roman Empire where they found a perfect home in the rocky and dry soils of Northern Dalmatia. By the late Middle Ages, specifically 1399, the first known written record of these cherries described a single large marasca cherry tree near Zadar, marking the beginning of its cultivation in the region.

  • 18th century

By the 18th century, Zadar had already established several liqueur distilleries, attracting Francesco Drioli from Istria in 1768 to start a new venture. Drioli was instrumental in advancing techniques which elevated production to an industrial scale. This led Maraschino being recognized as an exceptional product, adored among European courts and nobility.

  • 19th century

This was a period of exponential growth in Maraschino’s popularity and production. Noteworthy is the royal endorsement from Queen Victoria in 1871, which bolstered Maraschino’s reputation across Europe. By the late 1800s, Zadar became known as a city of liqueurs, with significant visits from royalty, enhancing its status as a leading Maraschino producer.

  • 20th century

Due to heavy bombings of Zadar during WWII, most liqueur production capacities were destroyed. Immediately after the war, the local former employees of these factories salvaged remaining equipment, and using their traditional knowledge, re-established production of Zadar’s legendary Maraschino once again under the company name “Maraska”.

  • Today

Our original Maraschino from Zadar continues to be celebrated worldwide for its unique flavour and as a testament to centuries of tradition in distilling. Whether sipped in a classic cocktail or enjoyed in a modern mix, Marasca Maraschino brings a touch of Dalmatian history to every glass.
